Stand-Alone Application (MKDongle.exe)

www.CAD6.com

The stand-alone CAD6 Dongle Server software MKDongle.exe should be used if the dongles shall be connected to a standard PC to which a user is logged in all the time. Its installation is fast and easy, and its current state can easily be viewed in a dialog window. All settings will be stored in the registry database under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, i.e. it will be user-dependent!

This software is also useful in order to test a configuration on a server before installing the service-based Dongle Server software MKDongleService.exe.

MKDongle.exe can be installed on any computer that has a TCP/IP connection via the local network to all participating computers, and that is running at least Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2.

Installation

If you're using a physical CAD6dongle, the dongle containing your latest license information must be connected to the computer first, see Installing a Physical Dongle.

Afterwards, the stand-alone Dongle Server software executable file MKDongle.exe must be copied to the computer. Then, start the Dongle Server by double-clicking that file. The "Dongle Server" dialog will appear. Now press the "Options" button to display the "Options" dialog. There, enter the IPv4 address of the computer running the Dongle Server and the port number to be used for the TCP/IP connection to the client computer into the appearing dialog. It might be necessary to open the chosen port number in your network-internal firewall. The default port used is 12345.

If you wish to use a virtual CAD6dongle, you must request it from us after you've installed the Dongle Server. Press the "Display Server ID" button and send us the displayed Server ID via e-mail. Once you received the virtual dongle registration code from us, press the "Register Virtual Dongle" button and enter the registration code there.

Now close the dialog and the Dongle Server, and restart it. After a short time, all dongles connected to the Dongle Server should be listed with all contained licenses.

If you wish the software to start automatically when you start the PC, start MKDongle.exe once with administrator privileges and set the "Auto-Start Dongle Server" option!

Debugging

If you have problems getting the Dongle Server to work, please check the logfile for messages that might help.

If the Dongle Server displays "Unable to bind TCP/IP", it is most likely that you either mistyped the IPv4 address of the computer running the Dongle Server, or that the port is already in use by another application. In this case, check the IP address again, and try another port number (12346, 12347, etc.) until the connection is established.
